Strong international interest in a program promoting academic freedom, according to BW Stiftung

The Baden-Württemberg Foundation, one of the largest operational foundations in Germany, has initiated a special programme aimed at supporting international academic freedom. This programme focuses on funding the establishment of internationally attractive young research groups at universities within the state.

Under this programme, universities can apply for scholarship funds for postdoctoral researchers for up to two years. Scientists in an early career phase then have the opportunity to implement their own long-term research project at the applying university for up to six years. After an evaluation of the research achievements, a further three years can be funded.

The programme is designed to support scientists whose academic opportunities have been limited due to restrictions on researcher mobility, publishing freedom, scientific data censorship, and findings being ignored. Successful candidates, selected by the university, would integrate into existing structures and projects of the applying university.

A young research group can receive up to 1.8 million euros over the entire funding period. Young research groups are supported with up to 300,000 euros per year for an initial period of three years.

While the search results do not provide specific names of globally emigration-ready researchers supported by Baden-Württemberg universities who applied for postdoc scholarships or junior research group funding through the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung, it is clear that this programme offers a significant opportunity for early-career scientists to further their research and contribute to the academic community.

The Baden-Württemberg Foundation was founded in 2000 and has been a key player in supporting research and education in Germany ever since. This new programme is yet another testament to their commitment to academic freedom and the advancement of scientific research.
