Woah, the 72nd European Competition has just wrapped up, and students from Wiesbaden and the Rheingau-Taunus district outdid themselves with a whopping 387 creative entries! 91 of these young minds were recognized for their brilliant work and were honored with a swanky ceremony at the Wiesbaden town hall.

Europe's Bright Future is in Good Hands

In the ever-changing world we live in, it's inspiring to see these German youngsters stepping up and engaging with European topics like freedom, security, and cohesion. They quite simply rocked it with 91 awards and even nabbed three federal winners!

The European Competition - More Than Just a Competition

Crafting a better Europe, one young mind at a time - that's the goal of the European Competition. Boasting more than 80,000 participants annually at over 1,300 schools nationwide, it's not only the oldest but also one of the most renowned student competitions in Germany. With the competition, students are encouraged to dig deep into European topics and questions.

Shaping Europe's Future, Together

Seven schools from Wiesbaden and two from the Rheingau-Taunus district participated in this traditional competition, the oldest of its kind in Germany. The young participants delved into European topics in a creative, age-appropriate manner, tackling everything from politics to security to social cohesion. The jury was blown away by the diverse ideas looking to shape the future of Europe.

Honoring Young Talent

On June 2nd, the European Commissioner, Maral Koohestanian, invited the prize winners to a swanky reception at the town hall. Alongside Manuel Frank, state chairman of the Young European Federalists Hessen e.V., they celebrated these young talents for their inspiring work. The event was accompanied by an exhibition of the award-winning works and lively performances by students from Bierstadt and Stauferland Grundschulen.

Pedagogical Support and Significance

Teachers from participating schools, such as Wilhelm Leuschner School, Europa School Dr. Obermayr, Carl-von-Oddietzky School, and Gymnasium Taunusstein, supported the competition with great enthusiasm. "I'm amazed by the creativity the students brought to the table," commented Koohestanian. The level of student engagement shows that the European project is alive and well.

A Voice for Young Europeans

The European Competition is under the patronage of the Federal President and invites students from all grades nationwide to creatively engage with Europe every year. Offering students a space to discuss and co-shape political, societal, and cultural topics, it's an essential tool for political education.
