Temporary Measures for Daycare Services

In the city of Bamberg, efforts are underway to expand the spatial capacities of all primary schools, as demand continues to rise. This initiative, spearheaded by Mayor Andreas Starke, involves a collaborative effort between various stakeholders, including carriers, school principals, the education department, property management, and the Archdiocese of Bamberg.

The Hain School and Gaustadt Primary School are at the forefront of these expansions. For the coming 2026/27 school year, an additional expansion in the upper floor of the former caretaker's apartment at the Hain School is planned. Simultaneously, the Gaustadt Primary School has rented the parish hall of St. Josef from the Archdiocese of Bamberg, maintaining 40 places in the open all-day school for the 2025/26 and 2026/27 school years.

The rebuilt and equipped rooms of the former caretaker's apartment on the ground floor at the Hain School have already created 22 additional places for after-school care. As a result, all children who have indicated a need for after-school care at the Hain School can now be cared for there.

However, there are currently ten children on the waiting list for after-school care at the Gaustadt Primary School due to short-term influx and changed care situations in families. The city is working to secure long-term care offers for all children, aiming to ensure that all children will continue to receive the care they need in the future.

Education Officer Gabriele Kepic praised the 'incredibly committed cooperation' of all parties involved in creating additional after-school care spaces at both schools. Mittagsbetreuung Hainschule e.V. and KoBiS gGmbH, the two carriers, are specifically mentioned for their contributions.

It's worth noting that by the 2025/26 school year, up to 95% of schoolchildren may require after-school care. The city's quick actions have been instrumental in addressing this growing need, and long-term expansion plans are in the works, including a potential long-term expansion in the attic of the Gaustadt Primary School.

These developments in Bamberg underscore the city's commitment to providing quality education and care for its youngest residents, ensuring a bright future for all.
