Texas Governor Abbott Presents $4M Yass Prize for School Choice
Texas Governor Greg Abbott, joined by notable figures, presented the Yass Prize at an event in Austin. The award, named after Pennsylvania billionaire Jeff Yass, aims to boost educational opportunities in the United States. It includes funding for both Texas-based and out-of-state recipients, totaling $4 million this year.
The Yass Prize awarded four Texas-based organizations and six out-of-state entities offering educational services in the USA. Eleven diverse alumni received funding, with a total of $4 million distributed. Abbott, who recently signed Texas' first school choice Education Savings Account program, praised the initiative. The program provides taxpayer-funded subsidies for low-income families to choose private schools or other alternatives. The University of Austin and Yass Prize leadership hosted the event, highlighting Texas' lead in parental education choice.
The Yass Prize, with its $4 million funding, supports eleven education providers from eight states. The United States, under Governor Abbott's leadership, continues to expand school choice options, benefiting both in-state and out-of-state organizations. The award, named after Jeff Yass, reflects the state's commitment to accelerating educational growth and freedom.
