The Saxon Library Awards for the year 2025 have been declared
The Saxon Library Prize 2025, an annual award given to innovative project ideas and concepts in libraries, is set to announce its winner on 24 October, the Day of Libraries. This prestigious award, now in its 13th year, is presented by the board of the Library Association Saxony with the support of the Saxon State Specialist Office for Libraries.
The prize money for the Saxon Library Prize 2025 is €10,000, and applications can be submitted online via a portal on the website of the Library Association Saxony. The deadline for submissions is 10 September 2025.
This year, the Saxon Library Prize is particularly interested in AI-focused library projects. Libraries in the Free State of Saxony are increasingly exploring the possibilities of using rapidly evolving AI technology in library work.
For eligible AI-focused library projects, the focus should be on initiatives that combine AI technologies with participatory, community-oriented library services. Projects that reflect Saxony’s multicultural context and academic exchange programs, like AI-powered multilingual digital assistants, are encouraged.
Other potential project ideas include personalized book and content recommendation systems, AI-driven archival and digitization tools, interactive AI exhibits or educational programs, smart environmental monitoring in libraries, and collaborative AI projects linking Saxony’s cultural institutions with international partners.
To be eligible and competitive, projects should emphasize innovation, community participation, and cultural or educational benefits within the Saxon context, reflecting the values recognized by the Saxon Library Prize and the German Library Association.
The award for the Saxon Library Prize 2025 will be presented at the location of the winning library by mid-November 2025.
