Trump Pushes Forward With Controversial Project 2025 Plan

President Donald Trump is pushing forward with a controversial plan, Project 2025, a radical overhaul of the federal government drafted by his allies. Both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, during their campaigns, targeted this project, criticising Trump's ties to it. Trump, however, is now openly embracing it.

Project 2025 aims to concentrate federal authority in the presidency, overriding implementing agencies' bureaucracies. Russ Vought, Trump's budget chief, is a key figure driving this change. The Trump administration is using the government shutdown to accelerate its goals of reducing the federal workforce and punishing Democratic states. Mass firings of federal workers and targeting of projects championed by Democrats are on the cards.

Trump has filled his second administration with authors of Project 2025, including Vought and Stephen Miller. He is currently meeting with Vought to decide which federal agencies to cut and whether those cuts will be temporary or permanent. Republicans in Congress are handing over power to the president, while Democrats criticise the lack of checks on presidential power.

The book 'Project 2025: How a Radical Network Is Taking Power in America', authored by David A. Graham, provides insights into this ultraright-wing political plan associated with the Heritage Foundation and its ties to Trump's 2024 campaign. Despite Trump's previous denials, his close ties to many of the project's authors are now undeniable.
