On November 21, 2023, renowned historian and author, Tim McNeese, will present an enlightening lecture at The National World War I Museum and Memorial in Kansas City, Missouri. The event, part of the Park University's Great War Institute Lecture Series, will delve into the formative days of General John J. "Black Jack" Pershing in the American West.

McNeese, who has been with York University since 1992, boasts a rich academic background. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Harding University, Master of Arts degree in history from Missouri State University, and Doctorate degree in history from Faulkner University. The lecture, titled "Pershing of the West: The Formative Days of 'Black Jack' Pershing in the American Frontier," will explore Pershing's early military career, which began with his graduation from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1886. His experiences in the American West, especially during the final days of Apache resistance in the Southwest, prepared him for his ultimate assignment as the top U.S. commander during World War I.

McNeese's work has been widely recognised. His book, "Time in the Wilderness: The Formative Years of John "Black Jack" Pershing in the American West," published by University of Nebraska Press, was honoured with a Nebraska Book Award in Nonfiction Biography in 2022.
