Unmasking the Uniform: An Exploration of Police Officers' Lives and Challenges

UC San Diego has announced a series of informative events scheduled for the coming months, with a focus on campus safety and student well-being. These events will feature expert speakers from various departments, including the University of California Police Department (UCPD), Triton CORE, the Office of Harassment and Discrimination (OHD), and other key campus entities.

Firstly, on Monday, August 19, 2024, from 10 - 11 am, an event titled "Harassment and/or Discrimination" will take place at the Scripps Seaside Forum Auditorium. UCPD representatives and Triton CORE will be the speakers, providing insights and guidance on this important topic.

Next, on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, from 1:30 - 2:30 pm, an event titled "Campus Safety" is scheduled. The Scripps Seaside Forum Auditorium will host this event, with UCPD representatives, Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S), a Scripps Campus Safety Officer, Scripps Facilities, and Triton CORE as the speakers. This event will also allow for anonymous question submissions, ensuring a safe and open environment for discussion.

Another significant event, "Community Engagement," is scheduled for Monday, May 13, 2024, from 10 - 11 am, once again at the Scripps Seaside Forum Auditorium. UCPD representatives will be the speakers at this event, offering opportunities for the community to engage in discussions about campus safety and well-being.

A unique aspect of the events is the role of Triton CORE, a mobile response team at UC San Diego that offers compassionate intervention and support to students experiencing behavioural health crises. This team operates Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and students can contact them through the UC Police Department non-emergency line.

The events are a testament to UC San Diego's commitment to fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive campus environment. By addressing mental health needs proactively and compassionately, these events aim to reduce crises that might otherwise require emergency or law enforcement interventions, promoting overall student success and health.

Registration for these events is currently available, and more details can be found on the university's official website. Don't miss out on these valuable opportunities to engage, learn, and contribute to the campus community.

For instance, the event titled "Campus Safety" on November 26, 2024, will feature guest speakers discussing safety measures and practices, enabling individuals to navigate the campus with greater awareness and risk reduction skills. Additionally, the "Community Engagement" event on May 13, 2024, will offer a platform for open discussions about well-being, fostering an environment that supports personal development and the overall well-being of the campus community.
