Park University has announced a series of developments and achievements across various departments and faculties. Here's a roundup of the latest news:

Academic Research

David Grover, Ph.D., assistant professor of English, will delve into research investigating the impact of instructor presence in prebuilt online writing courses. Meanwhile, Stacy Yeager-Okosi, Ph.D., assistant professor of business analytics, will explore the impact of onboarding on the success of adjunct faculty teaching graduate courses. Kathy Howe, Ph.D., assistant professor of literacy education, and Joshua Mugg, Ph.D., assistant professor of philosophy, have co-authored articles on "(Re)defining the ABCs of Misinformation" and "The Bias Paradox - We are Biased about Bias Itself" respectively.

Scholarships and Awards

Park University has announced the recipients of competitive academic scholarships, including the Presidential Honors Scholarship. Tomika Maxwell, a senior business administration/management major, was highlighted in the March edition of the KC Scholars newsletter.

Conferences and Presentations

Tim Westcott, Ph.D., associate professor of history, made a pair of presentations in March related to the Valor Medals Review Project. Yongzhi "Joe" Wang, Ph.D., assistant professor of computer science and information systems, virtually presented a paper on "EdGENI - Making GENI User-Friendly for General Computer Education" for the Association for Computing Machinery's Special Interest Group - Computer Science Education Technical Symposium. Tami Radohl, Ph.D., chair and associate professor of social work, co-presented a session on "Socially Awkward? The Nuances of Assessment and Treatment with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and Autism" for the Heartland Social Work Virtual Conference. Jolene Lampton, Ph.D., professor of accounting and management, co-presented virtual training sessions for members of the Institute of Management Accountants.

Sports

The Parkville Campus men's volleyball team has qualified for the NAIA Men's Volleyball National Championship. The team will play in the tournament from April 12 to April 16 at the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Art and Culture

An art exhibit featuring the work of Park University faculty from the Department of Art and Design is on display through Friday, April 22, in the University's Campanella Gallery.

Leadership Changes

Andrew Davis has been promoted to associate vice president of enrollment management at Park University, effective March 1. Janet Ostrander has been promoted to senior director of campus center operations at Park University, effective March 1.

Special Events

The Park University International Center for Music Orchestra will conclude its 2021-22 concert season on Friday, April 8, under the direction of guest conductor Tim Hankewich. The inauguration for Park University President Shane Smeed will take place on Friday, April 22, starting at 2:30 p.m. (Central time) in Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel on the University's flagship Parkville (Mo.) Campus.

Community Engagement

Gary Kerr, senior director of military and veteran affairs, was a panelist for a Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce event. Erik Bergrud, chief strategic communications officer, was part of a panel of the National Academy of Public Administration that released an assessment of cultural competence at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

Partnerships

Park University, in partnership with AstrumU, has launched its Military Credit Fast App 2.0. The Parkville Campus will stream the matches in the Pirate Café on the Parkville Campus.

Scholarly Publications

Abhijit Mazumdar, Ph.D., assistant professor of communication arts, had research published in a story in The Free Press Journal in India.

Tim Westcott, Ph.D., associate professor of history, appeared in a live interview on KCUR-FM's "Up To Date" program.

Submissions

Park University's academic journal, InSight, is seeking cover image submissions for its 2022 issue. The deadline for submissions to Park University's annual Student Research and Creative Arts Symposium is Sunday, April 10.

Campus News

The clock tower on Mackay Hall at Park University's flagship Parkville (Mo.) Campus, was highlighted in a story about iconic clocks in the Kansas City area.

Commencement Ceremony

Park University's Gilbert (Ariz.) Campus will hold its inaugural commencement ceremony for graduates on Saturday, April 30, starting at 11 a.m. (Arizona time) at Paloma Community Church in Mesa, Ariz.
