UofT Requires Full-Time On-Campus Return for Admin Staff in 2026
The University of Toronto (UofT) has announced that administrative staff will be required to return to campus full-time starting next year. President Melanie Woodin shared this decision in a statement on Friday, aiming to foster an in-person academic community with more face-to-face interactions.
The change, to be implemented in January 2026, or earlier in some cases, is based on discussions with academic and administrative leaders. UofT President Melanie Woodin acknowledges that the transition may be challenging for some staff. However, the university will still consider alternative work arrangements when appropriate.
The goal is to have a critical mass of administrative staff present on campuses five days a week. This is expected to facilitate more spontaneous and multidisciplinary interactions, fostering a vibrant in-person academic community. It may take several months for the full impact of the change to be realized.
Starting next year, UofT administrative staff will return to campus full-time, with some changes taking effect earlier. The university aims to create a lively in-person academic community through increased face-to-face interactions. While the transition may present challenges, UofT remains committed to supporting staff and considering alternative arrangements when necessary.
