VHS Lünen partnership for educational experiences and intergenerational communication
In a collaborative effort to strengthen education and promote intergenerational exchange, the Volkshochschule Lünen (VHS) and the DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus at Luisenhüttenstraße have joined forces. This partnership, which emerged within the network 'Lünen moves education', aims to combine local educational offerings with intergenerational meeting formats.
Starting today, a weekly event called 'Sprachcafé Deutsch - Welcome to the Currency Exchange!' will take place at the DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus every Wednesday from 10:00 to 12:30. This free, accessible event without registration offers an opportunity for those who want to continue learning after the integration course. Participants can practice German, overcome inhibitions, and make connections.
The Sprachcafé is funded with means from the development allowance of the Further Education Act. Björn Falke, director of VHS Lünen, emphasizes that this cooperation creates real added value for the people of Lünen, while Tim Jesella, coordinator of the DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus, stresses the importance of the cooperation in expanding the basic idea of encounter, openness, and togetherness.
The DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus, an open meeting point for all generations, offers a variety of activities including craft and creative circles, senior gymnastics, baby massage, communal lunches, colourful afternoons, and an annual Christmas bazaar. Through this collaboration, the DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus is expanding its offerings with additional educational and cultural events, such as a wine seminar.
The facilities of the DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus, with their open design, provide suitable conditions for events with an exchange character. In summer, participants can also use the sun terrace at the DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus.
Regular exchange within the network 'Lünen moves education' laid the foundation for the cooperation between VHS and Mehrgenerationenhaus. Institutions, associations, and facilities in this network work together to strengthen education in Lünen as a common task.
With this partnership, both institutions are using existing resources across institutions to provide new educational and cultural offers. The collaboration aims to bring together local educational offerings with intergenerational meeting formats, emphasizing the importance of learning and social interaction for all ages.
