Vietnamese cultural showcase expands through 'Future Designers' competition
Jeong Hyeyoung, a Vietnamese-Korean child model, made her debut on the Vietnamese runway at this year's Future Designers contest. The event, which attracts nearly 1,000 entries from students aged 6 to 15, including those from remote areas and special circumstances, is a significant platform for young design talents [1].
Hyeyoung's participation in the contest was more than just a show; it symbolized a cultural connection and added prominence to the event, which aims to spread Vietnamese culture among young participants and audiences [4]. Her costume, inspired by Dong Ho folk paintings, was a testament to this cultural exchange [5].
The Future Designers contest is not just a fashion competition but a holistic educational journey aimed at nurturing Vietnamese children in ethics, intellect, physical health, and aesthetics [7]. This year's contest theme was "Imagine yourself as a delegate attending the 10th National Uncle Ho's Good Children Congress and express your love for your homeland through your outfit at the event" [2].
At the final gala night, 24 of the top 50 excellent designs were showcased on a professional catwalk [3]. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thao from Hanoi and Nguyen Le Thuy Linh from Quang Ninh won the Special Prize, the highest honour awarded by the Central Youth Team Council [6]. Other young designers were recognized with "Talent" and "Potential" awards.
The 24 outfits from the contest, including Hyeyoung's, were auctioned to raise funds for the "Wings for Dreams Library" project to support disadvantaged children nationwide [1]. Designer Yen Ngo, who collaborated with Hyeyoung for the contest, was impressed by her professionalism and charm [8].
Hyeyoung, born and raised in South Korea but with Vietnamese heritage and a deep love for her roots, had always dreamed of performing on a stage in her homeland [9]. She received full support from her family and management company to participate in the Future Designers contest. Her confident demeanour, sharp eyes, and attractive charisma dominated the catwalk [5].
The success of the Future Designers contest reaffirms the vital role of the arts in cultivating love for the homeland and igniting creative potential in the younger generation. It is a shining example of how art can be used as a tool for cultural exchange and social impact.
In other news, H&M announced the opening of its first store in Hue, marking its 14th store in Vietnam [10]. Meanwhile, Anmako is set to unveil a new fashion collection on June 14, promising fresh, sophisticated styles that blend comfort and bold seasonal flair [11].

Hyeyoung's participation in the Future Designers contest, a significant platform for young design talents, demonstrated a blending of cultures in the realm of fashion-and-beauty. The event, aiming to foster growth not only in design but also in ethics, intellect, physical health, and aesthetics (education-and-self-development), also provides an opportunity for cultural exchange. After the contest, 24 of the top designs, including Hyeyoung's, were auctioned to aid disadvantaged children's access to a library (home-and-garden).
