Women's History Month Discourse at Park University Led by Local Powerhouses from Kansas City

Women's History Month Conversation at Park University

On March 20, 2024, Park University will host a conversation celebrating Women's History Month. The event will take place in the Jenkin and Barbara David Theater inside Alumni Hall on the University's Parkville Campus at 1 p.m.

The discussion will feature four distinguished women leaders from the Kansas City area, all Park University alumni. These women have made significant contributions in various fields and will share their journey from the classrooms at Park University to their current civic leadership roles.

Bridget Locke, the director of strategic communications for Swope Health, Kansas City, Mo., earned a Master of Arts degree in communication and leadership from Park University in 2018. Prior to her current role, she served as the managing director for KC Mothers in Charge and director of strategic communications at Park University. In 2020, she established BNL Communications, a consulting agency. Bridget also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication and human development from the University of St. Mary, Leavenworth, Kan.

Merideth Rose, the president and chief executive officer at Cornerstones of Care, a behavioral health agency in Kansas City, Mo., holds a Bachelor of Arts in communication theory and human relations from Park University, which she earned in 2006. She also completed a Master of Public Administration degree in project management from Park University in 2008. Prior to her current role, Merideth worked with the Community Services League in Independence, Mo., the Independence School District, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Mary Lou Jaramillo, a commissioner with the Kansas Hispanic and Latino American Affairs Commission, earned a Master of Public Affairs degree in nonprofit and community services management in 1996 and a Bachelor of Science degree in business in 1992, both from Park University. She was a member of the University's Board of Trustees from July 1998 to January 2003.

Kay Barnes, Park University's senior director for university engagement and the former mayor of Kansas City, Mo. from 1999-2007, will moderate the discussion.

The event will be livestreamed at ourwebsiteumedia.com for those who cannot attend in person. The discussion will focus on the women's journey from the classrooms at Park University to their civic leadership roles. This promises to be an inspiring event, shedding light on the achievements of these remarkable women and the impact they have made in their communities.

In addition to their civic leadership roles, the distinguished panelists, Bridget Locke, Merideth Rose, Mary Lou Jaramillo, and Kay Barnes, have roots in education and health-and-wellness, as they have pursued degrees in communication and leadership, communication theory and human relations, nonprofit and community services management, and business from Park University.

Recounting their journey from Park University classrooms to their influential positions, these women, hailing from the fields of science, health-and-wellness, women's health, lifestyle, education, and self-development, will discuss their accomplishments and the positive impact they've made in their communities during the Women's History Month Conversation at Park University.
